1. New site: mixedupjake.com

Well, I’ve been a very busy boy. I finished the Dare Devil’s food mixer and it’s up for auction.

And, more big news: I launched a brand spankin new site: www.mixedupjake.com.

I’ll keep up this blog there from here on out. At MixedupJake.com, folks can also design THEIR OWN mixers. You can customize your own colors, details, and post it on Facebook. If you’re really in love with it, I can even make it for you - to YOUR specs.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

I’m still on Facebook and @mixedupJake on Twitter, and you can always reach me at mixedupjake@gmail.com

  2. Fresh Mixer: Dare Devil’s Food

Rev it UP and mix that batter like never before! This Hobart A200 mixer was inspired by daredevils everywhere. The Dare Devil’s Food Mixer will give you THRILLS and CHILLS. It’s 20 quart - you can avoid the spills. The greatest daredevil spirit is immortalized in this mixer. It will dazzle you with with its three ELECTRIFYING speeds! My process:

I stripped it down and totally refinished it using Auto Air Colors. Used a solar white base to start, then I masked and painted the stars and stripes, added a sparkle finish, and topped with 2K clear for a finish as bullet proof as the machine itself. I pull it all together with a totally custom #1 socket cover, hood ornament style. As for the guts, this guy’s been completely restored mechanically and is smooth as butter through all 3 gears. Now that it’s ready, I’m auctioning the mixer on eBay. [SEE IT HERE] Together with Hobart Corp, we’re donating all the proceeds to CCAP, Careers through Culinary Arts Program. More info: ccapinc.org I love to give back to a good cause, and this is a great time to promote this new site. You’ve all checked out the Design & Buy section, right? Anyone’s free to design their own vintage Hobart mixer - from bright colors to badass details. Then post on Facebook. Or, even better, buy it, and I custom paint a mixer straight to those specs. Give it a try. So bid early and often to take home this indestructible mixing machine. This one of a kind workhorse is going to look AWESOME in somebody’s bakery or kitchen. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think or if you have any requests for some future mixer mods. Still have a couple up my sleeve but I’m always up for a good idea. Check out my updated mixer gallery on Facebook.

  4. Super Sweet VW Mods

Saw a super sweet old-school VW Bug on the road today - COMPLETELY modded out with flames in HUGE gold flake paint.

I resisted the urge to take a photo while driving, and I’m sure all the other folks driving near me were glad.

So, here’s a collection of some badass VW mods I found safely at home on the web:

This one is super PIMP - iridescent purple. Kinda looks like a bowling ball.

  5. New mixer with a BITE

Fresh out of the shop: Just finished a special request for an N50 5-quart Hobart mixer.

She may be smaller, but man she’s got a BITE. A blog reader saw my A200 shark/bomber theme from few months ago, and he said he dug it so much, he had to have the same thing done to his N50.

I started out with the matte olive base coat, cut the eyes out of masking paper and airbrushed with AutoAir, then got chromes for the smaller letters.

  6. the secret menu… shhhhhh!

I just read about 10 secret menu items from Mental Floss.

The Grand Slam at Wendy’s sounds nasty, but I could hang with the pizza sub and the Neapolitan Shake… Anybody tried these?

  7. Next…

SO PUMPED about the new mixer - doing an N50 this time. And THIS is all I’m gonna show you for now…

  8. Handmade bicycle show 2010

SUPER sweet mod bikes from the 2010 HANDMADE bicycle show - check ‘em out. Dig the custom brake design, the paint outs. The tandems from Bilenky Cycle Works in Philadelphia are total badass.

Renold Yip picked up the People’s Choice award for the Sunflower Town design with custom front rack and added stained wood - MOST cool.

Some good pics of the crazier stuff at the show here on YouTube.

  9. Avocados are awesome

Chocolate avocado cupcakes? I gotta try that…

  10. Awesome Helmet

Just stumbled on this on Toolmonger - a welding helmet painted out with a pinup… Super sweet.
